The Big Dance

Round 1---West---Seattle
#3 UMass #2 Cal St. Northridge
Points 70 79
Rebounds
Defensive/Offensive
13/1 33/13
Blocks/Steals 4/0 0/2
Turnovers 31 0

POST-GAME THOUGHTS

UMass stayed in this game with 67% shooting compared to 39% for the Matadors, but when you're outrebounded 46-14, and cause 31 turnovers for 43 points, even that great of shooting won't help.

Round 1---East---New York
#3 North Carolina #2 Iowa St.
Points 62 72
Rebounds
Defensive/Offensive
14/19 20/20
Blocks/Steals 0/2 1/2
Turnovers 16 34

POST-GAME THOUGHTS

It took some great shooting and taking advantage of offensive rebounds for Iowa St. to pull out the win from a 33-23 points off turnover deficit, but the place they really won the game was 17/19 from the free throw line.

Round 1---Midwest---Chicago
#3 Minnesota #2 UNLV
Points 72 88
Rebounds
Defensive/Offensive
22/20 7/10
Blocks/Steals 3/0 2/2
Turnovers 1 15

POST-GAME THOUGHTS

UNLV is normally a very strong rebounding team, but today were outdone 42-17 off the glass. Another game where great shooting was key for victory as UNLV shot 63% and took advnatage of 15 turnovers for 27 points to win.

Round 1---South---Atlanta
#3 UCLA #2 DePaul
Points 70 71
Rebounds
Defensive/Offensive
23/13 19/12
Blocks/Steals 1/1 4/0
Turnovers 18 31

POST-GAME THOUGHTS

Dispite 13 extra turnovers, the Demons were still only down 3 points on points off of turnover, and stayed fairly even on the boards. DePaul won on luck as UCLA scored with 2 seconds left to go up 2, and a half court 3 feel for the Demons.
